Is this Sanitary? Empty Is this Sanitary?

Post by twinkletattoos on Sun Jul 04, 2010 1:05 am

I was looking at an online shop that sells Glitter Tattoo Kits in Europe and I noticed they sell Rubbing Alcohol in lip gloss containers with the sponge wands. I usually use a small spray bottle and cotton balls/pads to cleanse the skin.

Do you think it is safe/sanitary to use the alcohol with the sponge wand and then reuse on the next person?
I can see how it would be faster to use this method and would reduce the need to keep purchasing/wasting cotton balls.

What do you guys think?

I think the alcohol would kill anything that got in there? Maybe.... I use the glue wand on person after person... hmm.. Good question though.

It's alcohol... it is sanitary. It is a sanitizer after all.

So true. I was just worried about using the sponge wand on a person and then putting it back into to the alcohol container and then using on the next person. I wasn't sure if it would be any less effective.

Consensus seems to say this is okay.

Yeah I know what you mean, about reusing the wand even thought it would be sterile...but I like using my mini spray bottle Smile It covers large areas quickly

I'm thinking that although you might be killing germs with the alcohol, you'd still be introducing the (quickly sterilized) dirt and grime from the skin into the container, not to mention the very oils that you're trying to remove from the skin. Eventually you'd have a liquid that was not . . . um . . . clear or clean-looking. Which might be off-putting to a client who spotted the bottle when you were using it.

As far as Suzy's question about the glue wand, well, glue application is pretty much LEAVING stuff on the skin, and is very unlikely to pick something up.

I'd also wonder how abrasive and effective the wand tip would be at cleaning, since you can't really apply the same elbow-grease to a tiny wand-tip that you can to a cotton ball or swab.

Update:
I tried this at a friends party and the sponge wand looked disgusting. I don't recommend this.

I think what is kinda gross about it is that you are essentially cleaning and taking off skin cells from the area to prep for the tattoo. So this accumulates on the wand. Probably won't kill you, but it don't look pretty!

I use Alcohol Prep Pads. They are wrapped individually. Wipe the skin and throw away. No need to use cotton balls. They are flat and don't take lots of room.

I agree daydreamer......I use the alcohol prep pads found at any pharmacy or drugstore. Much more sterile and a lot less bulky to carry around too.
