Glitter Tatt Disaster! Empty Glitter Tatt Disaster!

Post by Face Painting by Jessica on Tue Aug 07, 2012 10:49 pm

I had my first Glitter Tattoo add-on this past Saturday and even though I've applied them before, I was such a mess with them!

Some of the stencils ripped apart when I took the sticky sheets off, I kept forgetting to put the glue on, the glitter colours were mixing, and I got glitter on the client's floor (thank god it was hardwood!)

Do the stencils break easily? Do you carry multiple brushes for different glitter colours? How do you keep their floor clean?!

Thanks in advance!

Oh dear! I haven't had any stencils tear - where do you buy them? We use poofer bottles to apply the glitter and it is pretty neat, no brushes needed. One color at a time, brush away excess, then the next color. If you are applying tatts to arms, you can put a paper towel underneath to catch excess glitter, then dump it in a waste bag or something. If you get it on the floor, grab a wet paper towel and it will all come up in one swipe. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I had my stencils all go bad because they got hot. I suspect you were getting flustered when your stencils didn't work right and that's why everything else seemed to go wrong. That's what happens to me...

Next time pack a shower curtain to lay on the floor, so any spilled glitter can be rolled up into it when you pack up. Then just shake it out in your back yard when you get home. I don't have any other advice about the stencils. Just take a deep breath, slow down, and try not to panic.

The basic stencils were fine such as hearts or tribal suns, but the boys wanted Super Mario and when I took the first layer off all I had was an outline! And the eyes on my skulls wouldn't lift...

I only had 10 to do and then it was face painting (which I rocked) so it wasn't horrible. Thanks for the tips Smile

Thanks for posting Jessica,
I am soo afraid that is going to happen to me too..The ripping of the stencils or not getting the little pieces where they need to be..I cut a lot of my own stencils and am hoping they do well for me in a couple of weeks. I have decided on the ones with no floaties and skinny membranes to not use transfer tape... I'm hoping that helps..also Metina sells a silicone brush that seems to minimize the fall out of the glitter and they are ez to clean...
I found some online and bought 8...

@veelux: One color at a time, brush away excess," if you do this does it not increase the chance of getting glue onto your brush?

The glue should be pretty dry by the time you add the glitter so if you are applying with a brush there wouldn't be any transfer.

I don't apply with a brush - I either poof for one colour or use a tiny tool to scoop the colour I want where I want it.

Oh... I wasn't waiting for glue to dry lol. No wonder my brush looked like a punk rocker by the end of the gig!

I found that the heat makes my stencils act up. When they get too hot they don't want to stick to skin and they get all weird. I have to keep a cooler with me at the fair and put them in to cool off between kids. However, if I had a long line I don't think that would work so well as I wouldn't have time to let them cool.

whew!!! Just finished my first "big event" a glitter booth for a fund raiser..It got dark and they were holding their phones at the end so I could see...It got windy the glitter held on okay. I used the silicone brushes that Metina has in the shop..It was hot and real humid, my biggest problem was getting the transfer adhesive off the stupid stencils..( the ones I made) One poor girl, no matter what I did the stencil would not stick..tried 2 then switched to a faketoos stencil...Will post pics of set up later..too tired. 4 hours of standing.. Sleep

I ended up wiping her a total of 3 times and it was the 91% isopropyl..It was pretty humid and she was the only one out of about 30 people that didnt stick..I even tried baby powder.. confused

Hey Vicky are you still cutting your own stencils??? I need to change out my adhesive tape/transfer paper. Mine is suppose to be med tack, but I am having a hard time getting it off the stencil... Thoughts?

I had read somewhere that using a hairdryer to warm up and dry the skin after using the alcohol is supposed to help. I tried that this year, and it did help some, but I still had quite a bit of trouble with some stencils. It seemed like some brands stuck better than others, though.
