Re: Starblend ideas!
Thanks for sharing! I am amazed how you did it all on one board. I would get 3/4th of the way through my design and then make a major mess on the next one! Good-bye board.

I can't get over that Zebra!!! OMG SSSOOOOOOO cute!!
Denise Cold wrote:Here's the angry bird. The design got better and better as the day went on. I learned to make the beak smaller so I could line it with a "v":
Here's a skull and zebra:
Here's some more angry birds but they are paint so I could sparkle them but you can see the smaller beak and the evolution:
Here's a cheetah. So cute. But I LOVED the blue jag on kids...
Re: Starblend ideas!
Her mom wanted a princess type design but the girl was set on the zebra...they squealed when she got out of the chair. She was darling and she knew she was cute and everyone loved it. I love those "fireworks" type reactions.

Re: Starblend ideas!
Denise youre amazing! Im going to a local store in Orlando that sells starblends hopefully theyre good prices. You make me wanna buy them all! lol What sponges do you use to get them to go on so smooth? I have Snazaroo white sponges and theyre terrible I can't blend anything
Or it could just be i suck at the technique

Re: Starblend ideas!
LOLLIPOPS! If you search on lollipop sponges on google you'll probably find my name. They are great for all powders, I use them to tamp glitter on designs, stencil small areas and I'm thinking of them for painting but I've been using Starblends so much that I hardly use my paints anymore except for rainbows.
Yup, just checked and my Youtube videos come up 3rd and 4th. LOL!

Re: Starblend ideas!
Denise! You are rockin' the Starblends!
These are Starblends or Ben Nye Lumiere. I like the ben Nye better because they have some shimmer to them.

Re: Starblend ideas!
You are so creative with the powders Linda! I don't know why I think I have to save my Ben Nye for girly stuff, I know they go a long way. Your Wolverine is great.
Have you moved on to the new Ben Nye powders or are you still in the tins. I think I am going to buy me another tin as a backup and start using them more.

Re: Starblend ideas!
Denise you are so kind to share all your starblend designs and tips! I LOVE your boards!! You are definately bumping the starblend sales. . . I've got the white, black and red, but now I want yellow, pink, and orange

Re: Starblend ideas!
I still have the old tins. I might stick w/ them since they go a long way & take up less space in my kit.
Here's some more:

Re: Starblend ideas!
These are all so amazing!...I really want to practice with starblends more..I have trouble using the round applicators to get straight lines but practice will help for sure. I also don't seem to get them as "brilliant" looking as these photos..maybe more layers is the answer..
Re: Starblend ideas!
I have used the red wet & dry. I liked the look but now have been using new colors dry. What is everyone's preference..how about you Denise?.

Re: Starblend ideas!
I love using the white as a base, for the eyes and muzzle of my animals, it goes on so smooth and fast. I use the smoothie blenders but they are so expensive, currently I only use my smoothie blenders on my kids for portfolio pictures. I use a piece of the Martha Stewart grey sponges because they are easier to wash for public events.
Please share how you care and clean for your Starblends applicators. I use 1 sponge per person and try not to reload for paints. What does every one else practice for the Starblends/powder applicators?

Re: Starblend ideas!
Yes, dry, always dry.
I've tried them wet and they are goopy and I feel like it defeats the purpose of Starblends for me, comfort and no flinching when you apply around the eye. I've literally had a kid sit through and entire application of Starblends and then as soon as I TOUCHED him with a brush he lost it, couldn't hold still. I really think its the cold.
Lollipops are a great alternative to smoothies. They are $2.75 for 5 in the FPFshop. I like the control and they are easy to clean and dry quickly. I have two sets now so I can clean and dry one set and have the other in my kit.

Re: Starblend ideas!
Denise, do you use the same lollipop repeatedly or use a new one per customer? For the Starblends.
I know some FP's use the same sponge at a private party and who get a fresh sponge at public events for their paints. I always use a fresh sponge whether public or private. I feel as though I am preserving the integrity of my kit because I also use it on my family. I know the paints are made with anti-microbial ingredients but I feel those are intended for shelf life (mold) and not viruses (germs).

Re: Starblend ideas!
That is a great deal for the lollipops in comparison to the smoothie blenders.

Re: Starblend ideas!
I reuse unless I contact fluids or some food on their face. That's another reason I like the lollipop sponges. They are cheap enough that you can have one for every person if you had to and you could do a color on each side like orange and yellow for a tiger.

Re: Starblend ideas!
I was just hoping I could apply the white without all the extra powder flying around & to get a deeper coverage. Oh well, I do love them now for bases of tigers etc.Not a fan of the green or blue so much.
Thanks to Denise I now switched to the lollipops. They are much more resilient, and inexpensive compared to the smoothie blender. My blenders fell apart in the first weekend I used them. The lollipops have been washed over & over again.

Re: Starblend ideas!
I use starblends for all bases unless I don't have a starblend in that color (at least during the summer). I use those flat pads you get at any makeup store, etc. They have the same texture as the smoothie blender. I got a whole bunch from Kmart. I wash them as I do the sponges. I have been looking for those lollipop applicators. Michaels here doesn't have them.
But, I fold the applicator pads into a corner for more "detailed" areas, but it's not so accurate for small spaces. BUT, it is fast.
