Glitter sticking to wet/sweaty skin Empty Glitter sticking to wet/sweaty skin

Post by KristinLeePaint on Fri Jul 08, 2011 10:57 pm

I did glitter tattoos for a relay for life event and when I did a black spider on a kids neck when I went to brush off the glitter it all stuck to her neck! I was really embarrassed as she tried to get it off with a baby wipe and it just made her neck red from rubbing and didn't come off. I told her it would when she took a shower. Is there any way around this? The other colors really didn't do it just the black. It was glitter black not mica.
TIA!
Also is there a best way to catch the excess glitter, does any one re-use it?

Glitter sticking to wet/sweaty skin Empty sticky roller sheet for glitter fall out

Post by Denise Cold on Fri Jul 08, 2011 11:34 pm

Pashur used the semi-sticky side of the clear sheet to make a little slide below a glitter tattoo and pick up excess glitter. That gave me the idea of using those cheap fabric rollers that have the sticky tape sheets. I bought a couple at Dollar Tree and I am keeping in my glitter kit for just such an occasion.

In fact, I wonder if you couldn't fold it a bit to stick to the skin and let the glitter be caught a bit...haven't tried it yet though.

I think the consensus is that you don't save it because of sanitary reasons and usually I have 3 colors of glitter anyway so it's mixed up. I do re-use it sometimes for painted glitter fairies when it's going to be applied to the same person for the highlights on the wings.

PS: Another tip in the Pashur class I took was to make sure you clean the fall-out zone with alcohol too to remove the sunscreen and oils and it will help with the contact glitter.

The trick i was taught is to brush a little bit of baby powder around the stencil on the skin before you peel the top layer off and get to work. That has helped me tremendously in this heat and humidity. Glitter is easier to brush off.

Geez, I wrote a long post and forgot to hit send......

I had this same issue last year over the summer when I first started doing glitter tattoos. I asked the fine people on this forum for advice and it was a tremendous help.

I too alcohol the entire area not just where the tattoo is going to go. I also bought a mini fan to help dry the skin quickly and also dry the glue quicker. When people are hot and sticky the glue won't dry very well.

I normally paint on the glitter after removing the stencil but in the summertime I leave the stencil on and paint the glitter on that way. I find that the stencil creates a barrier so it doesn't go everywhere and I use way less.

Macky with Glimmer uses the clear plastic cover from the stencil to catch access glitter as well. I typically use a cardstock piece of paper to catch it all and then dust that into a small tupperware type container. I don't reuse the stencils or the cover layer as I find it unsanitary.

I hope this helps.

Glitter sticking to wet/sweaty skin Ep104010

I think it was Ashley that gave me the lint roller tip a year or so ago. It's awesome! I have one with me in my glitter tattoo kit. Once the glue is dry you can roll right over the tattoo and all the excess comes off. Works on their clothes too cheers

Tracalla- That is a huge help, thank you. I like the idea of a card to catch the glitter.
Catz- Wow! That belly is awesome.

I've tried this several times. It hasn't worked once. The adhesive is simply not strong enough to stick to both spots securely.

I saw on a video and have used successfully a few times medical tape to go over the area I think it might be a little cheapar and easier than using a lint roller, you can use smaller peices and still go right over the tat. I have just started doing glitter tatts though, but it seems to work pretty well
