I can't do face painting at our local (huge) Strawberry festival because the grumpy one who has been around since forever already booked there. But, I am allowed to do glitter tattoos. I was thinking of ordering the Amerikan Body Art Deluxe Professional Glitter Tattoo Kit. It comes with:
21 Glitter Colors in 1/2oz Poof Bottles
(5) 10ml Body Glue Applicator Vial
Professional Size Pure Black Mica Powder
2 Lollipop Swabs
Deluxe Sweeper Brush
4 Detail Applicators
2oz 99% Isopropyl Alcohol
Alcohol Pump Bottle
400 Self-Adhesive Stencils
3-Ring Binder for Storing your Stencils
Instructions
Carrying Case
2 Laminated Signs

...Do you think this will be a good starter kit? ...or do you you have any other recommendations?
Do I need anything else? I was going to get a banner that says "Glitter Tattoos" and some business cards that have instructions on the back.

This is a 2 day festival with about 150,000 expected. I'm sharing the booth with 2 friends who sell hair bows, tutus, etc.

I think it sounds good - I can't think of anything else you'd need unless you want to apply by brush. I like the binder system, some prefer the file card system. I don't know if you have the choice of which stencils to order but that would be my concern that that is where you might be light - simply to have depth and variety, but given that you are sharing your booth the banner is a great idea and the stencils might be enough.....

I think that would be a good place to start. However if you want to increase your market you could order more colors in the mica powders and use those and just say you do temporary tattoos instead of just glitter tattoos. I have found just saying glitter tattoos will turn most older boys away and the mica powders work the same as the glitter for the most part.

That's a good idea. The mica powders on the Amerikan Body Art page say they're "glimmer" mica. Is that the right thing? Would boys go for that? Are there non-glimmer (flat) mica powders in any other color than black?

I haven't ordered the banner yet, so I was thinking maybe I'd put
GLITTER TATTOOS and TEMPORARY TATTOOS
Last for 3-5 days! Waterproof!

I'm not really sure about the differences in the powders, I bought a little set of colors from a henna site. They do have a bit of a sheen to them, but they are still more acceptable for the boys to wear then the glitter, especially if you are just using the colored powders as an accent to the black.
Yes I would definitely add the words temporary tattoos, even if you keep the banner saying glitter tattoos. I just imagine the pre-teen and teen boys walking by scrunching their faces at the glitter tattoo part...you know how boys can be!

I have a lot of powders that haven't got any shimmer to them - you might just have to hunt around a bit to find matte colors - I don't think they are quite as popular as the shimmer (for general usage).

I get my mica powders from coastal scents and they have a few nice matte ones...the black is the blackest i've ever found.

I would however like to try the mica just to see the difference in looks.

Hey does anyone have both and willing to do a side by side comparison???

New to glitter tats...need some advice! Glimme14

Just got the Mica power yesterday. Compared to the glitter, it is very flat black. The Glimmer glitter is very sparkly!

I found this kit online. It is in China..I know China, but even with the 30 shipping to the US, It's less than 100 and it looks KA. I am thinking seriously of buying one.

I do glitter tattoos all the time. I have never had anyone ask for something less sparkley, not even the boys. I never thought about using mica powders, so guess it might just be personal preference.

I would like to know this too.

Eva, I was looking at that website today, I wonder how long does it take to ship. I like the case too Smile Not to many stencils though.

I have that kit Eva.

I had to purchase a lot of extra stencils (from Silly Farm) because it doesn't come with near enough, nor does it come with enough storage for them. Also, most of the stencils are complex tribal ones and those take extra time to do because the stencil cuts are so slight and hard to get the glue in.

The colors and glues are awesome though. They work flawlessly. The case is very professional. The bottles that came in mine are hard bodied, which means they don't "poof" out so we ended up using brushes for the glitters. That was the hardest discovery for me. I've yet to use the palette, gel or cleanser from it though.

I got mine in about 10 days, perhaps less. The shipping was insanely fast. I've had mine over a year and I just buy refill glitters here in the US and it works really well.

PS. If you're interested I can put up more detailed photos of what it is if you like.

I've never had problems with guys and glitter. In fact, I do a lot of high school and college events and those guys even get glittered. It's all about the stencils and colors offered, I find. I would really like to try micah powders though. I think it'd be a nice offer as well.

Lynnie, I noticed they didn't have as many stencils.
I want to get a kit that comes with the bottles so I can have the choice of poofing or brushing. I keep my face painting glitter in poofer bottles I mutilated when I fist got glitter tattoos LOL

Gina, have you checked out Tracalla's store? I think it might be the only one who lets you pick your stencils.

Maggie, these bottles are not poofer bottles. They are hard plastic which stinks. That company actually has a stencil pack that you can buy for $25 (I think) which is what I did and there were many stencils in it, but again they tend towards super complex tribal ones over easy kid-friendly ones which can be problematic.

Ok so I have never used a poofer, and I feel stupid but I have to ask...so why would that apply to glitter tatt? would you just poor it out?? Why would the harder bottles not be as good as the poofers?

Thanks for putting that up, Maggie. There are some stencils there that I've not seen before that I know would be popular. It definitely gives me food for thought with the kits as I need two more for my girls.

Eva, In my experience for a poofer to "poof" or work well, then they need a bit of squeeze to them. It's actually kind of blowing glitter out rather than pouring, which allows for a bit more control and precision over a pour (and less waste which can cost us a bunch of money if glitter tats are done a lot). Personally I find that using a brush to apply them involves the least amount of waste and the most precision so I only have a few poofers that I use regularly anyway.

I tried to select which stencils to get but the page was wonky, so it's more of a process to do so.

I think it's a good price and bargain. There is this one available at SillyFarm

http://www.sillyfarm.com/store/index.php?p=product&id=1292&parent=377

It has more glitter colors but less in the way of usable stencils and actually recommends buying more. The Chinese kit needs extra stencils as well, so while it's $56, shipping and additional stencils jack it up. My kit has 30 colors (I think) and honestly, it's too much. The kids get lost in choosing. My hub and I def think that about 20 is perfect so I think the kit that offers more in the way of stencils and a bit less in the way of colors is perfect. For what is offered, I think the $129 is a really good price.

I actually placed an order for Mica powders and some of the stencils from the Twinkle Tattoo. They are the only place I've seen Darth Vadar stencils so I couldn't pass that up.
