I don't normally worry about glitter fall out, but here lately it has been so humid and hot it seems to be swirling and sticking everywhere we don't want it.

Todays gig was a good one. Had our plastic mats laid out to catch excess that may fall, but the wind was picking it up and swirling it all over the place.
It was outdoors, and the cement walkway looked like Tinker Bell did a drive by. I felt badly, but not much to do about it. I figure wind and water will wash it away.

The poor kids had glitter all over, my son was covered in it. They would leave his chair and come to mine for face painting, and leave glitter on my chair.
He uses wipes to clean up the kids after they get their tattoos, but it just wasn't working today.

You were outside so don't worry about it.

I try to be very careful indoors though.

I don't worry about fly-away glitter from an aesthetic standpoint ouside. I always mention when I set up inside for a gig that there will be glitter fallout. Most people don't seem terribly miffed about it.

At sweaty gigs, I warn people they're going to be covered with glitter, and they don't seem to mind. Some people practically roll in it to get even more coverage!

It's hard to control glitter and there may be unintended environmental consequences from using it outside. In undergrad, our school was a long a natural waterway in a canyon. After our yearly end-of-year celebration, they would find a lot of dead ducklings. Post-necropsy, it was determined that they were chock-full of glitter. Granted, this was the big, chunky, confetti type of glitter. The school switched to using paper confetti after. Smaller birds may peck at our fly away glitter outside, but it's hard to know the long-term consequences of using it without connecting it to a necropsy.

That is very interesting Julie.

I think I may switch to using a shower curtain to cover a larger area than our mats do. The mats are plastic floor covers that I cut in half. They are great to have though, especially indoors because they grip carpet to help stay in place.

I will have to talk with my son about using the lint roller more. He is afraid it will pull on the kids and be painful. With a gentle hand , I don't think it would be a problem.

Do you use a poofer or brush to apply your glitter? i have my glitter in acrylic containers and use the silicone brush metina sells in her shop and the only excessive fall out is when i put too much on the glue at once. The silicone brushes work soo much better than regular brushes and I was able to wipe down for every color.. I have a few of them...

I just got three of the silicone brushes and am going to give them a try.
We use poofers, but have the hole big enough that it you don't have to spray it about, it kind of pours out for more control.
All the excess comes after brushing the design.

I bought a set of poofers from michaels and cut the hole to graciously pour and when I went to use it, the glitter poofed out from between the bottle and the lid...made a mess..went back to containers after that...

Ooh, I like the silicone brush idea. I hate poofing for GTs, and use brushes to apply the glitter. I get very little fallout that way, but again, fluffy-brushing the design at the end always causes fly-aways. I do poof iridescent white for full-faces.

Yeah, it seems to be the brushing at the end that causes all the fly aways. I hold a small cutting board underneath to catch excess. I guess the wind yesterday just made it especially difficult.
Those of you using jars, how do you set it up? Do you have the jars all laid out? Or do you reach for one at a time. Do you find unscrewing the lids to be time consuming?

These are from Jo Anns, the bead storage area. 5.99 Each holds 12 colors and I strap the container lid with a velcro strap. As far as the lids to each color, after they pick out the stencil, while the glue is setting they pick the color(s) and I only remove the lid then. I put the lids back on as soon as I am done with the color. I just did an event of just glitter tats and it worked well for me.. see posts on my FB page site..

I like the pop up cups because I can easily hold them in one hand and have 6 colors opened at once if I need.
I have 6 colors of rainbow in one set, laser glitters in another, mix of a cold colors and warm colors in 2 more and one spare set for my son to play. Very Happy

vegas mom,
my first glitter came with starter set from signature glitter. I like their poofers, but mostly prefer brushes. I filled my first pop up set with their glitter from the bottles.
Then I bought lazer glitters from Ybody after playing with them at the jam, I really like them.
When I was getting ready for the fair I ordered a 1000 stencils from Ybody because of the discount and bought 2 additional sets of pop ups already filled with glitter just in case I won't have enough glitter. I noticed that Ybody's metallic glitters seem to be more coarse than signature's.

I used to collect beanie babie and bought cases of acrylic cases. So all my stencils are contained in 2 of those. Can post pics tomorrow.

My system is not perfect.
For smaller birthday parties I use photo album with numbered pages to show what I have and keep the stencils in pocketed coupon organizer.

At the fair I worked with another artist, she had Ybody roll up banner. I put my stencils in a zippered CD case and numbered them. It was a quick solution, but I had to be careful, so that the stencils wouldn't fall out of the case.

This is how I fit longer stencils:

I bought neon colored sticky dots and used them to write numbers of the stencils.
